Kapahaka

In week 8 we were practising our Kapa Haka Bracket for the Cultural Festival in Kaikohe. We will be perform on the memorial hall stage. Our bracket had a Karanga, entry, waiata, transition, haka and exit. We chose to stay in at interval and practise. We even had a after school practise. After all of this practicing we were all hyped up. The hard part for me was the transition because there were really small gaps and I would nearly wack a girl. We all had a good time hope you like the post.

Beach clean up

Last week  Paihia School went down to the Paihia Beach clean up. We all had our own group of five people to pick rubbish up. Every one  had to put these gloves on so our hands wouldn't get dirty or cut. An Hour and half into picking rubbish up we were at the end of the beach. All of the groups had filled their rubbish bags up. After gathering most of the rubbish we had a group photo. We learnt that humans are lazy because we picked up a lot of rubbish. There is a liquor ban and we were picking all of these beer bottles and cans .The rubbish that we picked up the most was alcohol bottles, cigarette butts, alcohol cans and bottle caps.  I felt really angry that everyone was being lazy and wasn't putting there rubbish in the bin.

Kapa Haka Rakau

Last term the Kapa Haka Roopu boys went to go cut some rakau. The rakau we cut was totara Mr Lindsay said that it was really easy to work with. But the only problem was it had to dry up so we waited until this term and they were just dry enough. On Monday we spent the whole day working on them. But before we started to work on them we had to have a karakia. We also  learnt about the tikanga around them. The tikanga was that you could not drop them and also not step over them. We were making these rakau for our Kapa Haka performance. After learning about it we started to get in to it. After taking the bark off and sanding them down we coated them with oil. We had to coat them four times but only two of us did. I had to coat it one more time.
