Comparing Culture

The past two weeks in social studies our class has been learning about different cultures. We had to research four aspects from New Zealand and another country. The country I chose to compare with New Zealand was Italy. The four aspects I chose to study were food, clothing, arts and crafts and beliefs. I found that both countries have a lot of difference between the aspects I chose.  I hope you learn something from my research.

Water safety

We made a DLO about water safety. It had five things or rules that you had to do or you would have to use. These will help you if you happen to have an accident out at sea or swimming. This will save your life. Do you think you would survive if you didn't know about water safety? Hope this taught you a lesson to always be safe on the water.

Aha Ngapuhi

Yesterday and today the Te Ngahere kapa haka roopu learnt the original actions and kupu for Aha Ngapuhi. It is a very slow haka but it has a lot of aggression to it. What I found hard was pronouncing the words and doing the actions at the end. Now I have them stuck in my head. What we learnt from this that some people got lazy and didn’t wanna pronounce the kupu properly. Have you ever forgotten how to do something and had to learn it again?

Kapahaka

In week 8 we were practising our Kapa Haka Bracket for the Cultural Festival in Kaikohe. We will be perform on the memorial hall stage. Our bracket had a Karanga, entry, waiata, transition, haka and exit. We chose to stay in at interval and practise. We even had a after school practise. After all of this practicing we were all hyped up. The hard part for me was the transition because there were really small gaps and I would nearly wack a girl. We all had a good time hope you like the post.

Beach clean up

Last week  Paihia School went down to the Paihia Beach clean up. We all had our own group of five people to pick rubbish up. Every one  had to put these gloves on so our hands wouldn't get dirty or cut. An Hour and half into picking rubbish up we were at the end of the beach. All of the groups had filled their rubbish bags up. After gathering most of the rubbish we had a group photo. We learnt that humans are lazy because we picked up a lot of rubbish. There is a liquor ban and we were picking all of these beer bottles and cans .The rubbish that we picked up the most was alcohol bottles, cigarette butts, alcohol cans and bottle caps.  I felt really angry that everyone was being lazy and wasn't putting there rubbish in the bin.
